General Description:

This position serves as a core part of the R2D2 Center team and contributes primarily two functions to help improve interventions for people with disabilities.

  1. Work collaboratively with faculty and other PIs to prototype software and other disability related applications and technology for demonstrating universal and disability accessibility strategies.
  2. Provide instruction and dissemination of universal access concepts and products to faculty, staff, students and the public.

Qualifications:

Required:

Bachelor's degree in a technical, design, disability, or related field with accessible information design, software development and engineering skills (including dynamic/database-driven web-sites) and relevant post-graduate training or equivalent advanced experience. Team oriented, detailed, and self-directed. Strong English language, editing and excellent communication skills are essential.

Preferred:

Master's degree in a technical, design, disability, or related field with accessible information design, software development and engineering skills. Knowledge and skills with modern programming methods (such as designing software that meet accessibility guidelines and Section 508 information access standards; using accessibility evaluation strategies and tools; and optimizing software for usability.) Direct experience working with individuals with varied disabilities and in training others about accessible design.

Duties and Responsibilities:

60% Work collaboratively with faculty and other academic staff to prototype software and other technology products related to our disability and technology research and demonstrating universal and disability accessibility strategies.

  1. Provide R&D software engineering for R2D2 Center projects applying broad technology expertise and abilities to cross funded grants and contracts. Serve as core part of R&D team, developing, testing and innovating software to implement innovative universal and disability access strategies.
  2. Provide research and development engineering for other assistive technology devices and approaches across grant and contract projects. Serves as core part of research and development team.
  3. Test and evaluate multimedia instructional products using existing and innovating new methods for measuring accessibility.
  4. Produce audit critiques of technology software, devices, and systems with recommendations and demonstration remedial strategies.
  5. Innovate new accessible methods to disseminate R2D2 Center information products and databases to dynamic resource delivery, including on the WWW.

35% Provide instruction and dissemination of technology and disability access concepts and products to faculty, staff, students and the public.

  1. Develop and teach software access strategies in person and using multi-media, including slide presentations, video, traditional WWW platforms, and other distance technologies.
  2. Teach and supervise students and other R2D2 Center members in technology and disability products.
  3. Develop, edit, proof, and prepare presentations and papers for conferences and publications in this area of expertise.
  4. Provide technical support for R2D2 staff, and support proposal development and project reporting as needed.
  5. As part of R2D2 Center core team, accept responsibilities to envision and help create funding streams to support the R2D2 Center mission.

5% Provide other related technical support for R2D2 Center projects as assigned
