Position Announcement - Web Development & Technical Support Assistant (Hourly)

Description:

The Rehabilitation Research Design & Disability (R2D2) Center in the College of Health Sciences at UWM has a student hourly opening on its web development and technical support team. This position will assist with 1) web development projects, including templates, databases, CSS, accessibility tuning, and transforming content for web presentation and 2) technical support projects, including installation, troubleshooting, documentation, advanced macros, and finding innovative technology solutions.

Qualifications:

Required:

Experience in standards-based website design, including dynamic/database-driven sites.  Team oriented, detailed, and self-directed.  Strong English language, editing, troubleshooting, and customer service skills are essential.

Knowledge of HTML/XHTML; CSS; web scripting language (PHP, Cold Fusion, etc.); web databases; Windows and/or Mac operating systems; advanced Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).

Desirable:

Knowledge of and/or experience designing websites that meet W3C’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and Section 508 web standards; testing/optimizing sites for usability; and using web accessibility evaluation tools.
 
Examples of technical skills that will be beneficial to this position include: Oracle; Cold Fusion; PHP; Postgres; website statistics/analysis; web graphics layout and design; PDF creation/accessibility; Microsoft Word/PowerPoint/Excel document accessibility; advanced Excel macros; resource database design; dynamic web-based graphing and visualization; website authentication/security; digital video editing, optimization, and captioning; CMS (content management systems); templates (e.g. Cold Fusion, XSL/XSLT); CGI; Perl; Windows troubleshooting; Mac troubleshooting; Mac imaging; software installation.

Hours:

Approximately 20 per week

Compensation:

$10/hr
